Airport CEO Alpha 34 released (The R&D Update)

I just reported a bug with autoplanner-overlay, ACEO-22497. In my case I can reproduce it and it’s caused by manual scheduling in combination with autoscheduler:
The game doesn’t allow (re)scheduling any flight manually to a stand with autoplanner active. However, if you still drag a flight to the row even though it is “greyed out”, the flight will be moved to the new stand but the departure time will be the same as before.
For example, you have stand 1 with autoplanner active and stand 2 with it disabled. Now you reschedule a flight departing stand 2 at 9:00. The flight planner will show stand 1 greyed out and display a text that you can’t move the flight there. Despite that, if you still drag the flight to stand 1 at 18:00, the flight will eventually end up being on stand 1 at 9:00. If there had been a flight scheduled before, they’ll now overlap.

@Olof I still can’t manually schedule flights that arrive before midnight but leave after midnight (I get a message saying ‘Can’t allocate flight outside panel.’), the logic to make this possible is already available because the auto-planner can do it and has been doing it for many different Alpha releases.
Given that I keep having issues with overlapping flights on the auto-planner I keep it turned off meaning that some of the flight scheduling options are not available. Subsequently I get quite a bit of congestion at certain times of day, because flights are always leaving and departing at similar times of day (particularly as my airport grows even further).

@Olof: This still happens to me in 34.5-1. Not all the time anymore, but still not solved completely.

I’ve sent in quite some tutorial bugs already. Although the tutorial is better than before, it’s still massively lacking consistency and explanations.
I recommend the developers taking time to play the tutorial game from scratch, doing nothing but only following the steps told in the tutorial (and also try not to use your knowledge of where which button can be found). In my opinion that’s the only way of finally getting a really working tutorial.

Is it just me or does the tutorial not mention what service technician do?
I know what they do but a newbie wouldn’t learn through the tutorial because it doesn’t mention them at all

There’s quite a bit missing. I’m just at remote stands now, but until now it neither mentioned service technicians nor did it mention restrooms at all.
Also things like repairing runways (or using the COO for that) isn’t mentioned.

By the way, I just reported bug ACEO-22507 with walls suddenly disappearing after removing nearby terminal foundation. After saving and reloading, there’s even more wall missing and also a whole airside shuttle bus stop disappeared. I didn’t place my airport anywhere near Bermuda Triangle, so I guess this shouldn’t happen…

Is there anyway to have more busses and taxies comming without just placing more and more and more taxi and bus parkings?

Hey everyone! Back from the weekend with new energy. Will spend the day looking through the back log and take care of the most pressing issues so thanks for all of the reports.

The tutorial is played through by all of us developers multiple times before every major release. We do not want to have a tutorial that explains every feature or step in the game as it will become tiresome and uninteresting, people should also discover things on their own. We also have a few more content updates to go before the tutorial will be set in stone, meaning that there is no point right now in having more than an OK tutorial that explains the basics of the game because of our early access state, it wouldn’t be very smart crafting an exact and fully detailed tutorial that then suddenly will have to be warped because of changes and new content - that’s really just development time down the drain. Once we go into beta the tutorial will be fully fleshed out and finalized. Regardless, the lack of explanation for service technicians is probably better handled through a notification if you have broken items but none such employed, both at this point and in the future. We’ll take a look at it!

I fully agree! To add to that, of course it shouldn’t have big mistakes like referring to the removed procurement panel instead of the R&D panel or a missed note on complete a certain R&D project. That is very easily fixed and often solved as we or someone mentions that!

I actually think there is a message for both the janitor and service technician if something breaks or is filthy and one is not hired. The code and text-strings are in place at least. Will have to investigate and maybe improve the notification text?

EDIT: I would say this might be enough. Maybe add “Consider hire a janitor to keep your airport clean” or similar. Note that this message is spawned with every broken object and filthy floor tile.

Notifications can indeed replace tutorial steps, so players are made aware of it once they need it. Then the tutorial would only need to generally tell where/how hiring people is done.
Similar with toilets. There’s the small icon above the head of people but nothing else; maybe there could also be a notification like “Your passengers can’t find a place to relieve themselves. Consider building toilets.”

Any way to improve the busses and taxies? They don’t come often enough, so the gap between them allow all the spaces to get overcrowded

It does not seem that there will be a fix to that, it may well be a bug. You could however spread out some of the stands or make the roads one way. This can elevate some stress on traffic by allowing a more direct or larger path for vehicles. (That is what experience and city skylines thought me).

The problem is not a traffic jam, they just come to rarely.

And then they build up, right?

So when they build up you can shuffle the traffic better.

Also, can you clarify this please.

No, I never have a jam, I mean instead for example having idk, 6-8 busses/ hour I have like 1-2, I feel that to fix the overcrowd I would need more busses and taxies per hour or per 24h, the ammount of incoming busses/taxies is just too small.

How overcrowded are your bus/taxi stands? They don’t seem that crowded from my perspective.

I’m glad I’m not the only one…

Got the same problem as well, feels like every second bag of guns and drugs will get onto the plane, even with top qualified security officers and the previous scanners already having it detected.
