I have seen a lot of people (me included) refer to passengers as pax. I don’t know what pax means/stands for so could someone inform me please?
Persons, Amount X
PAX stands for Persons, Amount X 1,2,3,4, whatever Ships used it to define how many passengers where on board. i.e. Persons Amount X 1000
Essentially, pax means people/persons/occupants, as succinctly expressed by Callithumpian’s answer (apparently it was used as early as the 40s; it became a standard term in the UK Passenger Transport industry in the 70s)
