[SOLVED] Game won't start after 2.0.1 with Schengen zone workaround

Since the update to 2.0.1 not a single saved or new game will start. It keeps on loading the game world without advancing.

Is this a known issue and will it be solved?

I have not seen any other reports on this. Have you tried reinstalling the game and completely purging the settings files? What are your hardware specs?

Oh my! That is really weird then. I played it yesterday and everything was fine. Nothing else changed on my PC in the meantime other then the installed update. I did not reinstall the game yet as I hope that there is a different solution.

Specs: i9-9900K, RTX 2080ti, 32GbRam. Do you need anything else?

Does the game produce any log files? Does it crash or just feeze?

No problems here (playing on a Mac), did you try to quit Steam and re-start it and then start the game again? Could you also please try to start a new game (after the Steam re-start)? Did you re-start your PC as well?

It just keeps on loading without progressing. It does not freeze as the app uses 51% memory and 10% CPU during this process. The only way to get out of ACE is by closing the screen. There are no log files in the event viewer, if that is what you mean.

Yeah, tried a re-start of steam, my pc and created a new game. The issue persists.

I would suggest reinstalling the game and purging all files relating to the game in the Apoapsis Studios folder via %AppData%. Remember to backup your saves!

Okay, after reinstalling the game is up and running again. Thanks!

Weird! But great! Hopefully someone with the same issue will find this thread and use it to solve their issue!

Hey Olof,

I believe that I have found the cause as it is just reoccurring.

I have been using the Schengen-workaround of ‘@Rubengass’ in the topic ‘Schengen Zone’. Now that I replaced the airportdata.json and countrydata.json with these adapted ones, the game won’t start.

Would there be a possibility to enable this feature again to work?

Ah, I see. Then it’s a misconfiguration with the database. You’ll need to validate it and ensure it’s correctly set up.

It’s currently not supported by default but something we’re looking into for a later beta sprint.

Hi @Tomkuehne, @Olof,

I just looked at it and my game crashes as well. I think the game updated and overwrote the modified Airportdata and Countrydata with original files. When loading up your savefiles the game doesn’t know what to do with the unrecognised countries and it crashes. Re-copying the files fixed the issue for me.

Since I made that post, this is the first time I encountered this, something in the database might have updated causing it to also be overwritten by Steam.

“Modding” the game has its risks I suppose…

Hey Rubengass,

Thanks for your reply!

Just to double check, but is your game running again with the Schengen-zone? I do not seem to get it functioning by re-copying the two replacement json-files.

In my case I can only play the game by recopying the original json-files and having no Schengen-flights.

My savegame loads with The Schengen zone “enabled”. The game also recognised around 450 airports within the zone so it seemed to work. I haven’t player for a long time however.

The big questions, what changes have been made in the CountryData.Json and ContinentData.Json?
I see those two files have a date from the last patch.

Anything you have to do in your Shengen Version as well?

Weird that it works on your side by just recopying the replacement json-files. I had to revert back to the original json-files in order to play the game.

I really liked your Schengen-workaround! I even designed my airport around it. Therefore I hope that it will be functional again in the near future.
