See-through floors for “vaulted” ceilings

Description:

Ability to see through floors in the game to create an area with “vaulted” ceilings. Like, an atrium area with ceilings that are two levels tall.

Why it should be implemented:

An aesthetic improvement to airport terminals. Also, this would allow game users to see what is happening on floors below the one they are currently looking at.

I like this idea. Lots of airports are going for the open air/ L.E.E.D. style of building, that also has Swooping Roof-lines, such as Terminal 5 at LHR, or TBIT at LAX, which uses the second floor to route international arrivals to a FIS (Federal Inspection Station) on the -1 Floor. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d2/Tom_Bradley_moving_sidewalks.jpg
Effectively would probably need a 1st floor foundation, 2nd floor foundations that does not cover all of the 1st floor, and a 3rd floor that does cover the 1st floor foundation. Possibly make a clear floor “tile” kind of like seeing the ground layer on subsequent upper layers.

In other words, have a tile that simply displays the foundation below it, and is considered unuseble. I think that it should be free to place and would construct immediately…

I don’t think free, because in theory it would be glass, but yes, I do agree.

But it could still get dirty.  Also we could have a toggle button for if you wanted little lines of separation, or (in some cases unrealistic) have one whole pane of glass. But it gets my vote.

I mean, you already placed a foundation below it… I then technically replaces the foundation’s ceiling, so why pay for the roof twice?

It would actually make more sense to have like a sky roof and remove foundations and the roof, not just the terminal foundation.

Continuing the discussion from See-through floors for "vaulted" ceilings:

I agree with @Blackout because it is two or more stories tall there wouldn’t be the second story in that area. but also we can make a sky roof, or a sky platform for an open area to walk on, but that is not near association to vaulted ceilings. we have to also make a roof that is not vaulted, we just need it to have “glass” properties.

In ACEO I think @MKH1020’s explanation would be more implacable, but @Blackout’s would be correct in a vaulted ceiling situation. the CEO simply just has to delete the foundation underneath to make it vaulted.

What exactly does vaulted mean though. I just guessed.

vaulted means that there is one empty floor beneath the roof. I am just using context clues from the first original post. look at the picture on the second post as a reference.

Wait, so it is kind of like this?:

Exactly. there is more than one floor separation from the roof, and we also want a glass roof. #Changi looking good.

Ok, yeah, now this all makes sense

Can’t you just destroy the floor beneath the terminal building above Ground Floor 0? (I know you can’t do that right now, but that would be logical, right?

yup, that’s why this is being voted on.

But the author is asking for see through floors

he wants both. if you look at the picture given on the second post you can see a lot of the roof is glass. so he wants a glass roof, and vaulted ceiling. also it would be very cool to have an observation deck thing, for aviation spotters made of glass. :+1: :+1:  :yum:
