Remote Stand shuttle bus loading/unloading

Feel free to move this to another thread or combine if it’s not in the correct place or has already been mentioned!

Now it’s taken me a while to get Remote Stands in general relatively smooth, and departing on time. The only way I have found that even slightly works (for on time departures with full pax count) is:

  • Ramp Agent Staff Room nearby
  • Service Car Stop (1 stop per 2 stands maximum) close to above Staff Room
  • Boarding Gates not miles away in terminal
  • Remote Gates not miles away from terminal (which slightly defeats the object)
  • As many turnaround vehicles parked on each stand or in very near depots

As you can see, bottom left corner is my current “Remote Stand” area with boarding gates and shuttle stops slightly to the right. It works. But then it dawned on me, something with the buses…

For the most part, my buses are heading to the gate from a nearby depot as the plane is landing down or taxiing, therefore it’s just about getting situated in position as the plane is coming to a stop at the stand. This for the most part is ok as the pax wait for the Stair Truck and then deplane. But this is never the delayed end. Let me continue…

Skip ahead a few game-hours, the turnaround service is mostly complete just pending baggage being loaded and the shuttle bus is about to leave the terminal (albeit a bit too close to the departure time for my liking). Then it arrives along the ride, turns into the gate and then spends a further 25-30 game-minutes turning around just to offload the pax, causing an even further delay! Let’s put this into an actual example:

Here’s CX159 with a scheduled departure of 3:45pm. At this screenshot the entire turnaround is complete, just awaiting pax. Bus is currently 2/3rds full still loading pax.

Problem 1) it’s now 2 minutes past departure time (let’s presume this should be pushback time) at 3:47pm and the bus has just left the terminal building after waiting for all pax.

12 minutes later the bus arrives at the gate location (which is realistically too much elapsed time for that distance of journey…but that’s a battle for another day). And then…

A further 13 minutes later, the bus has completed it’s 180º turn around the gate area and begins to unload. We’re now 27 minutes past departure time and haven’t begun to board yet. This particular CX-757 has 92 pax waiting to board, and this takes 25 minutes. Pushback starts at 4:44pm, totalling a 59 minute delay

I do my best to avoid flights (if known) with remote gate boarding as I generally don’t enjoy it, however, when I have done it I recall the good majority of buses having doors on both sides of the vehicle, which would remove the need for the 180º turn. Cobus is a brand I know I’ve seen globally and I’ve definitely been onboard their products containing both-sided doors. Alternately, it would still be quicker for the bus to stop within the area and the pax can disembark quicker and board quicker.

Overall just an observation, but quite a frustrating choice that could be fixed easily (I think, but I know nothing about coding haha)

Let’s add the Coburg bus in the vehicles catalog, for some higher price than the regular bus. There’s a demand.

I sure think so!

The overall flow of remote stands and boarding process/times probably needs to be adjusted before getting to this level, but it’s certainly something worth bearing in mind :bus:
