Modular construction of terminal facilities:
Description:
The basic idea is to allow for more customization of our terminals. Instead of just check-in desks, small and medium (and presumably eventually large) security checkpoints, and boarding desks, allow players to customize each.
Rather than plopping down a bunch of check in desks, have a check in area and be able to make check in desks with as many (or few) guest service stations as you desire. Also, it would be nice to have the check in desks assigned to a particular airline rather than a particular gate (in the real world you go to a check in desk for your airline regardless of which gate a plane is flying out of).
For security, it would be nice if instead of plopping down the checkpoints we could zone a security area and then add the different elements to it (ID check point, x-ray machines, metal detectors, body scanners, etc) and assign the routing through it. It would be nice to be able to build massive sprawling security checkpoints like you see in real airports instead of a line of smaller ones.
The modular design is kind of already implement with the boarding desks, because you can connect multiple desks to the same gate, but it would be great to see that fleshed out more.
Why it should be implemented:
Two main reasons. First is realism, real airports follow the same basic designs as every other airport, but customize it to meet their needs. Second, greater player creativity, it would allow us to try different and unique ways of solving problems.
