In Airlines some prefer times for departures and arrivals for instance UAL flys a Boeing 787-9 to Sydney from lax (real route) they go at night along with many airlines when there’s a mass departure at night but a lot of international arrivals come in early in the morning I was thinking it would be a cool idea if they prefer a certain time then it can be edited by the airport but the farther it is from what they prefer the less planes that can come with that contract
Love that idea. Maybe you get a satisfaction penalty the farther you get from requested time slot and too far they pull the flight altogether.
Great idea, and it could really put stress on the airport. Maybe in the morning you have a lot of the long haul aircraft aircraft arriving, so there will be masses of people, but then at other times of the day more light aircraft arrive, so it doesn’t put as much strain on the airport
Love the idea!! Not just specific airlines preferring specific times, but also specific routes (like you mentioned the LAX to Sydney route).
Yeah most long haul come in around 8 a, then lighter aircraft normally come in later and early at nights is normally when long hauls depart
Seems like a really good idea. As you said, due to time zone difference many airlines fly late at night and arrive early in the morning (such as the LHR-HKG route).
I’ll point out that the time of departures/arrivals is also dictated by climatic conditions:
Say we have two flights departing from Riyadh and Denver.
The flight from Riyadh would take off later in the evening, because the elevation of Riyadh airport is around 600m ASL, so it is naturally hotter at the airfield. Normally, a higher temperature correlates to a lower air density, meaning that jet engines need to take in more air in order to rotate, to takeoff. If they depart later, then the temperature would be cooler and therefore colder air = denser air. This means that jet engines would need to take in less air so aircrafts would use less runway.
In Denver, the elevation of the city is 1 mile, so it is much colder around the airfield. With the same temperature-to-density principle, it would be possible for airlines to prefer departure/arrival times earlier in the evening (which gives them a more flexible schedule).
I’m not anticipating this will come in the first Early Access release, but it might be nice to see it come out at a later date. The devs would probably need to devise some general climatic zones in bands around the world and have several weather parameters specific to that region. So departure/arrival times could be affected purely by our airport’s geographic location
There could be multiple factors in preferring departure and arrival times. We, as CEOs, might possibly need to look at:
- Airline preferences
- Timezone adjustments
- Weather conditions
- Fuel arrival times
- Agreements with local authorities (eg. Cranford Agreement)
With regards to your suggestion, I’d say that this may not be looked at before the game is released on Early Access. But it sounds like a great idea, and it might come in a later update. For now, the devs want to keep pushing to getting it through Steam Direct
On the east coast, the evening flight board typically has all the long hauls arriving betweens 5-8 PM, and departing between 7-10 PM. Many also arrive early morning here (midday Europe) and depart around 9-10 AM, when there is a break in arrivals and departures.
