I recall the fire station scale was off quite a bit. Was this ever changed I am wondering. Perhaps getting back into the game.

The firestation is the same as when it was implemented.
You only need it when you play with emergencies and higher than difficulty level easy. (On easy, the chance for emergencies is almost 0%)
As stated, the fire station has not been changed. Perhaps in the future of ACEO Custom Buildables we will be able to create new structure variants, but for now all we have is the vanilla building.
sad. yeah, that building is way too big.

The model’s scale mirrors an average sized fire station of a large European airport so yes, for smaller airports it will appears as too big but eventually the airport should grow into it.

For variants like this, modding is a good way to get them into the game. (IE they aren’t core game features or really specific one-line changes which are both incredibly hard to do in modding, but medium-sized changes that are great for customization).
