just a quick question, ground equipment like GPUS and cones etc will they be hooked up and put around aircraft ?
and will they need to be put on stand before arrival or will they remain on stand no matter what ?
and will we have to buy all ground equipment or will we get some as free or start up ?
yes, I think there will eg air stairs, baggage trains, baggage belts ect
moin
as some one working at an airport these days, I’d really like to see the handling equiptment being one of the limiting factors. it is not uncommon that during the peak hours, the turn around is being delayed due to lack of fuel trucks, stairs, GPUs were needed, etc … of course, there needs to be a balance between complexitity and limited micromanagement.
I guess it is up to the CEO how many fuel trucks, luggage carts etc. the airport should have. Fewer vehicles means less costs however maybe some delays.
Yes, ground equipment, to a certain extent, will definitely be a core part of the game. During the summer we built a pretty powerful procurement system that’ll allow us to make virtually anything a product in the game, and there are already a few stuff implemented (mostly for testing reasons). For example, stuff like vehicles (fuel trucks, service trucks, baggage trains and carts, pushback trucks, catering trucks) will have to be bought as well as structure upgrades, dashboard upgrades and more.
Indeed! Minor equipment, cones and stuff like that will not be purchasable piece by piece but perhaps “by the pound” in terms of generic minor ground equipment.
GPU usage is airline dependant though. I work at a airport and mostly low cost carriers demand GPU usage (WizzAir)
While other airlines rather keep APU’s running to save time on the turnaround.
Also it would be nice to see defects in the Ground Service Equipment.
Our GSE breaks down very often so it can happen that for instance we don’t have GPU available.
Also some airports have ground power actually in the ground, at schiphol they can just tap into the ground for power (also for fuel but thats another story)
working at an airport myself, the use of GPU is not only a question of airline policy, but airport policy as well. some airports forbid the usage of APUs during the turn around for noise reasons. It is also part of work safety.
as Mossol already mentioned, different airports have different infrastructures. apparently, in AMS the GPUs are installed into the ground on each position, in MUC the GPUs at Terminal one are installed underneath the passenger bridges or in the ground on remote stands.
the use of the APU can only be forbidden, if GPU is available and, as the APU is also being used for heating, if external heating is available.
however, I think, most of those things are of no significance to the game. however, whether it is a mobile GPU or something installed somewhere on the position might have an impact on costs, availability and turn around times.
I think they have a lot of significance to the realism of the game and can offer multiple solutions to a problem, some being stopgap measure, hire more GPUs and heating units, or dig everything up and install cabling for underground GPUs. You may be required to reduce noise levels by the government and hiring more GPUs could solve this. Amongst other things.
For the fuel:
I was just wondering how will the two types of fuel be stored and transported?
Will there be only one fuel depot for the both types of fuel? Will the two different types of fuels be transported by the same fuel trucks? Please if anyone would like to answer my question that would be great.
Thanks.
